What Is An Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon?
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMS) are specialists who treat many diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) region. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons must complete an arduous and comprehensive residency training program after they graduate from dental school in the top of their class. Oral Surgery programs range from 4 to 6 years and today the top programs integrate a medical degree into the training. Very few specialists can say that they have dedicated ten years of training to their profession.
One thing that separates Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Houston from any other specialist is our extensive training in the administration of anesthesia. We are uniquely trained and qualified to offer our patients the ability to have their surgical care performed with a variety of anesthesia options right in our office.
There are other specialists and general dentists who offer similar services; however, no one has similar training and experience. The only person who is trained in oral surgery is an oral surgeon.
Oral Surgeons, like other specialists, can elect to take a national exam and become board certified. All of our doctors are diplomats of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and we are one of the few elite teams in the greater Houston area that can make that statement. You can rest assured that you are in the most capable hands when you choose Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of Houston to care for you or your family.
