Have you heard of Teeth-In-A Day? Most people know that dentures are an option for patients who are missing most, or all, of their teeth. However, research has linked numerous problems with dentures. When a person is missing one or more teeth, bone loss is also a concern, and dentures often slip. This can interfere with a patient’s ability to eat and speak properly. Thankfully, there is an advanced option known as teeth-in-a-day that proves to be extremely beneficial. Like dental implants that replace one or more failing or missing teeth, and All-on-4 implants that replace multiple teeth, this option allows you to have a natural smile once again, while also gaining an improved ability to eat and communicate well.
An Oral Examination
At OMSH, we are part of a rare group of practitioners in the Houston area to provide this procedure. We work closely with each patient to create a customized treatment plan that will work best. Not every patient will be an ideal candidate for teeth-in-a-day. An oral surgeon will have to perform a careful examination and consultation to determine candidacy. Surgeons also consider the patient’s bite and force of chewing during the consultation. Furthermore, our oral maxillofacial surgeons will evaluate your overall dental health and bone density. Overall, this helps us determine if this option is suitable for you.
The Preliminaries
After a patient is found a good candidate for teeth-in-a-day, the process starts with a Cone Beam CT scan, or CBCT, to generate a 3D model of a patient’s upper and lower jaw. Oral surgeons use this scan as a model to virtually plan the surgery. The scan also helps them determine precise dental implant placements.
The Process
During the process, our experienced oral maxillofacial surgeons will remove any teeth remaining in the mouth, and strategically place the implants where they need to go as specified in the model. Once the patient’s implants are in the optimal place to support a prosthesis, the surgeon can immediately place the new teeth. Ultimately, patients can leave the office with the freedom to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
